WINDS ALOFT CONTEST

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!

Please visit CaptainJudy.com for more, exciting adventures!

JUNE 16 - 19, 2015:  Paris, France, to Madrid, Spain

AUGUST 5 - 6, 2015: Dubai, UAE to Karachi, Pakistan

Capt. Judy will record the winds at the altitudes when she is flying these routes.  The SCC forecasting the closest to the actual winds aloft for any of these routes will be awarded international recognition and a post flight visit by Captain Judy and Navigator Fred presenting awards and certificates.

You should start your winds aloft forecasting with the Winds Aloft Depiction and Forecast charts.  You can learn more about how to create your own Depiction and Forecast charts by downloading the tutorial below with specific instructions on how to create your forecast. Take special notice starting with the paragraph: ‘Now for the advanced over the ocean and international winds research.’

Once you understand the Winds Aloft Depiction and Forecast Charts, you are ready to research winds at the upper millibars (mb) or also known as Flight Levels (FL).  These are the altitudes that Capt. Judy will most likely be flying in the Citation Mustang jet that you should research, forecast, and record on your Winds Aloft Contest Form : 300mb (FL300), 250mb (FL340), 200mb (FL380).

Captain Judy and Navigator Fred asked the members of the Western Michigan SCC to provide us with a tutorial on how to examine winds aloft.  This will be useful in participating in the International and National Winds Aloft Contest.  If, after reading this, you still have questions, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
